BunaBot
Last updated: October 2, 2026
BunaBot is the name Buna uses when it fetches a public Instagram post. If you found this address in your server logs, this page explains what the request was and how to reach us.
What it fetches
When someone in a Buna household imports a recipe from an Instagram link, Buna requests that post's page, signed out, with this user agent:
BunaBot/1.0 (+https://heybuna.com/bot)
That request reads the public preview tags on the page: the caption, the author, and the address of the thumbnail. This request does not sign in and does not download the post's video or audio.
How often
Only when a person asks Buna to import a post. Each import attempt makes one request for the page, following at most three redirects, and a redirect to another site carries the same user agent. If an attempt fails for a temporary reason, Buna tries again later, up to three attempts in all. BunaBot does not crawl, index, or revisit pages on a schedule.
Other requests during an import
BunaBot is used only for the Instagram page request above. An import can make other requests, and those do not identify as BunaBot. When the caption does not hold the whole recipe, or the preview request fails, Buna may download the post's audio to transcribe it. When a caption links to a recipe site, Buna may read that page. If none of that finds the recipe, Buna may search the web for it and read the pages it finds.
Blocking it, or asking a question
Blocking the BunaBot user agent stops this preview request. An import may still use text the person supplies, or make the separate requests above to transcribe the post's audio, read a linked recipe, or search the web. If you would rather we stopped, or something in your logs looks wrong, email support@heybuna.com with the address that was requested and roughly when. We reply within two business days.
